SIGC Takes Community Outreach to Ahwerase, Obosomase and Tutu
SIGC conducted a community outreach programme in Ahwerase, Obosomase and Tutu in Ghana’s Eastern Region. The initiative brought SIGC closer to residents, providing community support, health awareness and engagement with families, young people and vulnerable groups. The outreach reflects SIGC’s commitment to grassroots development, empowerment and improving the wellbeing of communities across Ghana.
In the heart of Ghana’s Eastern Region, three communities, Ahwerase, Obosomase and Tutu, became the focus of a community outreach initiative by the Sustainable Initiative for Global Change (SIGC).
The outreach was built around a simple belief: meaningful change begins when people and communities receive the support, knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive.
SIGC brought its community-focused approach directly to residents, engaging families, young people, women, older persons and other vulnerable members of the communities.
The programme provided an opportunity for community members to receive support, access important information and engage with volunteers and programme staff on issues affecting their daily lives.
For SIGC, the outreach was more than a one-day activity. It formed part of a broader commitment to working alongside communities and responding to needs at the grassroots level.
Across its programmes, SIGC focuses on health awareness, youth mentorship and empowerment, education, food security, skills development and support for vulnerable groups. The organisation’s approach starts with understanding communities and working with local stakeholders to develop practical interventions.
At Ahwerase, the outreach strengthened SIGC’s continuing engagement with the community. SIGC has previously conducted health and community support activities in Ahwerase, including health awareness initiatives and support for vulnerable households.
In Obosomase, the outreach continued SIGC’s efforts to reach older and vulnerable residents. Previous SIGC activities in the community have included health screening, food support and social engagement for elderly residents.
Tutu also formed part of the three-community outreach, extending SIGC’s grassroots engagement to more residents in the Eastern Region and creating another opportunity to listen, connect and provide practical community support.
One of the most important aspects of the programme was the human connection.
Community members were able to interact directly with the SIGC team and volunteers. Conversations provided an opportunity to better understand community concerns while also sharing information about health, education, livelihoods, youth development and available support.
For young people, such engagement is especially important. SIGC’s programmes include mentorship, career guidance, life planning, vocational pathways and entrepreneurship training designed to help young people make informed decisions about their futures.
For women and vulnerable households, SIGC’s work also extends beyond immediate assistance. The organisation supports skills development, financial literacy, micro-enterprise initiatives and other pathways toward greater economic self-reliance.
The outreach in Ahwerase, Obosomase and Tutu therefore represented another step in SIGC’s broader mission: supporting communities while helping individuals build healthier, more secure and more sustainable futures.
Community development does not happen overnight. It grows through relationships, trust, consistency and practical action.
By bringing its programmes closer to the people, SIGC continues to demonstrate its commitment to grassroots development and to a vision of communities where young people are empowered, vulnerable groups are supported, and families have opportunities to thrive.
The journey continues.
From Ahwerase to Obosomase and Tutu, SIGC is taking its message of service, empowerment and community transformation to the people who need it most.
